Why the smell keeps coming back — and how we actually stop it
Car odor removal with J&W is an ozone treatment paired with an interior detail, done at your home in Oakland or the East Bay. Smells live in fabric fibers, seat foam, the headliner and the HVAC evaporator. A freshener coats the air for a few days; the source is still there. We extract and steam the residue out, then ozone neutralizes what cleaning can't reach — so smoke, pet, mildew, lingering food and even that forgotten gallon of milk are gone.
Common in the East Bay: mildew smell after the rainy season (a leaking seal soaks the carpet padding), dog smell from weekend trips to Point Isabel or Redwood Regional, rideshare and pre-sale cars that have been smoked in, and kids' car seats. If the cause is an active leak or soaked padding, we'll tell you — the source has to be dried or the smell returns.

Shampoo extraction and high-temp steam pull the residue and bacteria out of seats, carpet and headliner. Hard surfaces wiped with an enzyme or alkaline cleaner as needed.

Ozone treatment
A commercial ozone generator runs sealed inside the vehicle with the HVAC on recirculate, oxidizing odor molecules in the fibers and the vent system.

Doors open, fans on, fresh cabin filter if needed. We do a sniff test with you before we leave.

Does ozone treatment really remove smoke smell?
Yes, when combined with proper cleaning. Ozone (O₃) oxidizes the odor-causing molecules and bacteria in carpets, seats, headliner and HVAC rather than covering them. For heavy cigarette or cannabis smoke we shampoo and steam first, then run ozone with the HVAC cycling so the vents are treated too.
How long does odor removal take?
The interior detail portion takes 2–4 hours; the ozone treatment runs 30–90 minutes depending on severity, then the vehicle airs out for 30+ minutes before you get back in.
Is ozone safe for my car and for me?
Ozone is safe for the vehicle's materials at the concentrations and durations we use. No one (people or pets) should be inside during treatment, and we ventilate the car fully afterward — you may notice a faint clean "after-thunderstorm" smell for a day, which fades.
What odors can you remove?
Cigarette and cannabis smoke, pet odor and urine, mildew and musty smells from wet carpet or a leak, spilled milk and food, vomit, gasoline and sweat. If a smell comes from a leak or wet padding, we'll tell you — the source has to be dried or the smell returns.
Why not just use an air freshener or a bomb?
