Alameda is ten minutes from our Oakland base through the Posey Tube, and it is one of the places we work most. It is also one of the hardest places in the East Bay on a car's paint: you are on an island, the marine layer parks over you most mornings, and salt settles on every horizontal panel overnight. Add sand from Crown Memorial State Beach, bird droppings along the Shoreline, and fallout from the estuary, and an unprotected clear coat starts to etch within a few weeks.

Salt is the story here. Marine air off the Bay and the Oakland Estuary leaves a fine saline film that a tunnel wash cannot remove and that accelerates oxidation and etching — especially on dark paint parked outside in Fernside, Bronze Coast or along Shoreline Drive. Clay bar plus iron remover takes it off; a synthetic sealant or, better, a ceramic coating makes the surface hydrophobic so salt and fog rinse away instead of sitting on the paint.
Beach days at Crown Memorial and Robert Crown State Beach, the dog park at Alameda Point, and the Alameda Point Antiques Faire (first Sunday of the month) all end the same way: sand in the carpet, in the seat tracks and in the trunk. Compressed-air blowout and hot-water extraction get it out — a vacuum alone never does.

Every 3 months for a Clay & Seal exterior if it lives outdoors. Salt air from the Bay bonds to paint faster here than inland; quarterly decontamination plus sealant prevents etching and oxidation. A ceramic coating stretches that to maintenance washes with a yearly decon.
