Orinda is the other side of the hill from us — through the Caldecott and out the far end — and it is a genuinely different climate from Oakland. Summers here run hot and dry where Oakland stays in the fog, and that changes what a car needs. UV is the main aggressor: it fades and oxidises unprotected paint, cracks dashboards and hard trim, and dries out leather until it splits at the seat bolsters.
Then there is the tree cover. Orinda Village, Sleepy Hollow, Glorietta and the Orinda Downs are thick with oaks and pines, and they drop sap and pollen heavily in spring and early summer. Sap that bakes onto hot paint in an inland August is a very different job from sap on a cool coastal car — it bonds harder and it etches faster.
Add the dust that comes off the dry hill roads and the long unpaved or gravel driveways common up here, and you get cars that need real decontamination rather than a rinse. A Clay & Seal exterior handles it; a ceramic coating keeps handling it for about three years.

A car that lives outdoors in Orinda takes far more UV than the same car in Oakland or Alameda. On unprotected paint that means oxidation — the finish goes chalky and flat, worst on red and black, and on horizontal surfaces first: roof, bonnet, boot lid. Once oxidation sets in, washing does nothing; it takes machine polishing to cut back to healthy clear coat and restore the gloss.
Inside, the same sun cracks dashboards and fades door cards. Our interior detail includes UV-protectant dressing on plastics and vinyl and conditioning on leather, which is genuinely preventative here rather than cosmetic — dried leather splits at the driver bolster first, and that is not repairable by cleaning.
Coatings do their best work in exactly these conditions: strong sun, sap, pollen and dust. $800–$1,550 complete — sedan $800–$1,000, mid-size SUV $1,000–$1,250, large SUV or truck $1,250–$1,550 — including hand wash, clay and iron decontamination, paint correction, the coating, cure and inspection.
The practical benefit up here is UV resistance plus a surface that sap and pollen cannot bond into, so seasonal fallout rinses off instead of etching. It runs about three years. We do need a garage or covered space for the day so the coating cures properly, which is standard on Orinda properties.
Larger vehicles are common on this side — three-row SUVs, trucks, and motorhomes or trailers parked on the property. We quote those by size up front, and we do RV washes and detailing at the house or at the storage yard.
We come through the Caldecott from Oakland — typically 20 to 25 minutes outside commute hours — and there is no travel fee for Orinda. Same-week appointments are usually available; we tend to schedule Lamorinda jobs mid-morning to stay clear of tunnel traffic in both directions.
Long or steep driveways are not a problem as long as we can park the van within reach of the vehicle. If your driveway is gravel, unpaved or unusually steep, mention it when you request a quote and we will confirm the setup beforehand rather than discovering it on the day.

No travel fee for Orinda. We come through the Caldecott Tunnel from our Oakland base, usually 20 to 25 minutes outside peak commute times.
Usually yes — that is oxidation from UV exposure, and it is very common on cars parked outdoors on this side of the hill. Machine polishing cuts back to healthy clear coat and restores the gloss. If the clear coat has actually failed and started peeling, polishing cannot fix that and the panel needs respraying; we will tell you honestly which one you have.
It is one of the better places for it. Strong inland sun, oak sap and pollen are exactly what a coating protects against — the surface resists UV and seasonal fallout rinses off instead of bonding and etching. Roughly three years of protection for $800–$1,550 complete, including the paint correction underneath.
